“In 1956 when extensive alterations were being considered the Trust advertised for descendants of those buried in the cemetery but very few were found.”
Situated on the north west corner of Mooringie Avenue and Marion Roads, All Saints Uniting Church is on the site of one of Adelaide's earliest Wesleayn Methodist places of worship. The graveyard was at the rear of the rough-cast church with its small belfry above the front door which opened on to a short path leading to Marion. Road. An opening in the surrounding grey stone wall allowed access to the road. The pathways of the small graveyard were overgrown by dark green cypress pines and some graves were enclosed by black wrought iron fences. May were unmarked or had simple wooden crosses and a few had white tombstones set against the back of the grave-site. An annexe known as 'The Pioneer Annexe' was built behind the church over the former cemetery and the remaining headstones were placed under the floor of the new building. They are no longer accessible. A black marble plaque is affixed to the wall inside the Pioneer Annexe which reads: 'In Memory of our pioneers whose remains sanctify this ground'.

DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST. — We have to record the death, of another of our pioneers, Mr. Edward Jury, of Plympton, who passed away on Thursday, March 16, in his eighty- sixth year. Mr. Jury left Kent, England, on September 4, 1839, and sailed for this colony in the barque Brankenmoor, Captain Smith, and arrived in South Australia on February 7, 1840, together with the late Dr. Richard Penny (Surgeon Superintendent), Dr. Charles
Davies, Mr. Alexander Tolmer, Mr. Rutland, and other early colonists who have passed away. At first Mr. Jury with his family settled in the hills, but after a few years re-moved to Plympton, where he purchased a section, built a house, planted a vineyard, and cultivated land for culinary produce. For years he was noted for the excellence of the peas grown on his land, known as 'Jury's 'Wonder,' and large-sized onions which were exhibited in the shop windows in the city. He was of a very genial and hospitable character, and made a large number of friends, whom he loved to entertain. He would amuse his listeners for hours with reminiscences of his early life. Mr. Jury lost his wife about twenty-seven years ago. There now survive him four sons and two daughters (widows), twenty-nine grandchildren, and forty-six greatgrandchildren. His remains were interred beside those of his wife in the Methodist Cemetery, Plympton, on Saturday after-noon. About forty relatives, neighbours, and friends assembled around the grave, the service being conducted by Archdeacon French, of Glenelg.

Mr. Nathaniel Wheaton, who died at his residence, Edwardstown, last week, was a highly respected colonist. He was a Devonshire man, born in July, 1820, and with his wife arrived at Port Adelaide in September, 1849, by the ship Aden (Capt. Baker), a vessel which was wrecked on her return voyage. Two years later the deceased gentleman purchased a section of land at Edwardstown, where for 53 years he was engaged in farming and viticultural pursuits. During 1852 and 1853 he made two trips to the Victorian goldflelds with consignments of flour from the old Mount Barker mill, and this he readily disposed of for upwards of £10 per bag. Meeting with his brother on one of these journeys, which were made in bullock teams, Mr. Wheaton tried his luck at gold digging. While removing camp on one occasion the brothers were "bailed up" by a man, who demanded their hard-earned treasure, but the Wheatons were also armed, and being powerful young men, they lost no time in securing the highwayman. The culprit, whom they conveyed to the nearest police camp, proved to be the junior police trooper, and as the proceeds of several gold robberies were found in his possession, he was sentenced to a long term at Pentridge. During the early days of coursing in South Australia, the late colonist was one of its chief supporters, and many valuable trophies were won by his hounds. Mrs. Wheaton died over 30 years ago. A family of five married daughters, Miss Wheaton, and Mr. W. N. Wheaton survive.
